Maïa Dakessian (she/her) LinkedIn



Maïa is a master’s student in bioethics at the School of Public Health of the University of Montreal. Her research focuses on ethical issues related to language barriers in access to health care services. She holds an undergraduate degree in cognitive neuroscience as well as one in linguistics and psychology, both from the University of Montreal. Maïa joined Science & Policy Exchange (SPE) as a volunteer in the summer of 2019, was VP Editor in 2020-2021 and was elected as Co-President for the year 2021-2022 and 2023-2024. She also is on the Board of Directors of SPE since 2021. Through SPE, she aims to promote the importance of evidence-based decisions as well as the ethical considerations of such decisions. On a daily basis, she educates herself on different marginalized communities such as BIPOC and LGBTQIA2S+ to learn the best practices to make health policies more inclusive. Maïa is also the Co-Founder of La distanciation sociale au bout du fil, a project created during the COVID-19 pandemic to reduce social isolation of both the elderly and students.
